Murphy NY Trip 2024 Day 1
Part 1 of a 5-part series. All time lapse video kept at the original frame rate of 1 frame each 1/2 second because I've never captured these routes before. From Clarkston to Erieau to Toronto to Batavia. A lot going on in this first one. A long and rather interesting day.

Pattern Work Mystery 230813
Просмотров 1204 часа назад
(Backlog upload from 08/13/2023) WARNING: TWO WORDS OF EXPLICIT LANGUAGE (and boring content) This was a pattern work video that morphed into troubleshooting a vibration detected on downwind legs. That kind of thing catches an experimental builder's attention. This may or may not be the last backlog video uploaded to the channel. All others are either too boring, too embarrassing, or involve ot...

(Backlog upload from 07/03/2023) After the previous flight on 07/01, I did more work on the cowling nose bowl, reassembled the cowling and took this test flight. A decent crosswind and broken puffy clouds made for a bumpy sky and thus the bouncy landings. But this is the video that captured an exchange that I share often when I want to explain just how cool the PTK controllers are. The airport ...

Front Yard Sunset 240602

I thought I might catch a good time lapse sunset tonight, and I was right. The occasional black dots that appear in the video are cameos by birds, bats and bugs. Music: Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven; slightly ironic as there is no moonlight featured in this video, but the timing was perfect in spots.

6 hours in 9 minutes. Interesting yet boring, with a ridiculous ending. Wasn't sure I was going to share this, but I've posted dumber videos before. This is what happens when I'm driven create something, but more important subjects aren't ready for production. My current motto: Do Something, even if it's lame. Two Flights 230601

(Backlog upload from 06/01/2023) The title is very understated. These were the first two post-annual inspection flights in my RV-8; two flights were very much required as the first one was an abort. The second flight was after I fixed the problem that occurred during the first flight, and it was beautiful. I missed a Chapter meeting, but I caught a great sunset. The problem had occurred before;...

(Backlog upload from 05/27/2023) Beautiful day to fly to Marlette and Tuscola. It's been so long that I had to do some research; this was the first of two flights before the annual inspection was closed out for 2023. It's been almost a year since I made this flight, but it seems like forever. I can't wait until I'm flying more frequently. I'm missing a big part of my life. Music: After all by G...

It also has one of my favorite endings that I've ever done on any of my videos, because it's just... so... me. (Backlog upload from 04/26/2023) A practice flight for filing, activating and closing an ICAO Flight Plan using the ForeFlight iPad interface; required for flying into Canada in the future. Interesting postscript at end. This was my 90th flight logged in my RV-8, flown almost exactly one year ago. Seems like decades already. I miss this aircraft a little more each and every day. B&T Cincinnati - Dayton - Champaign Trip
really nice to see an unedited flight.
Thank you! I know a lot of my videos are long, but I like to think that when I make that editing decision, it's the right one. Thanks for the affirmation.
Goatflieg, fantastic editing~ ;))
Great video. I loved the music, the sights and the flying.
🎉
Great video (Brodan)
Love that Beech! "Goodbye Now" :)
Marty, don't stop being you. Keep making these videos. You are an inspiration. If you can do these things, so can I!
Thank you for the encouragement. As I recorded it, I thought my description of the process might be interesting. When I previewed it, I discovered that I was very wrong. So I turned it into something palatable. There may come a day when I make an interesting sim video... But It Is Not This Day! This Day We Chop It Into Little Bits And Add Sarcasm!
I wouldn’t recommend this to most recreational flyers. Thankfully ATC in Detroit is very helpful most of the time, but this isn’t a great idea if you’re not proficient in this type of airport
I agree. Once my aircraft was flying I visited a lot of different airports and got flight following as often as I could to get used to being in the system. Class B is another level, but after a year and a half of flying I felt comfortable being vectored into DTW and following the Chicago Flyway. DTW ATC didn't do what I expected but my studies of the airport layout helped me and I did pretty well. I was pretty tired on the way home and got bit by a moment of confirmation bias, but fortunately I fixed it quick. All the ATC crews I've encountered in Michigan have been great to work with.
Nice Martin!!! Inspiration for my own 8 build
Glad for the opportunity to inspire others!
Awesome video! So many lessons in it! How to fly to Canada, customs, fly into Bravo, progressive taxi, flyover DTW, wow. Watched it over 3 days but loved every minute. Good job!
Thanks for that valuable feedback! While doing my homework for flying into and returning from Canada I learned that there wasn't much current information of value on RUclips that I could use. I had started to plan to make a video of my own processes - getting the paperwork in order, getting a good grasp of the proper sequence of operations, and actually performing the flights. I wanted to do it a few more times before I assembled that video. Unfortunately right now it seems I won't get any more chances to fly to Canada any time soon so I shelved that video project. If I'm able to do it in the future, you'll see it on my channel.
Thanks for the video. I know Mark so yes, she is in excellent hands.
It won’t be until the end of 2024, but it is very likely you could be back into an RV8 via a Sport Pilot cert if you don’t have a denial or revocation on your 3d class (don’t seek or withdraw renewal application if pending).
The FAA has my medical information in the line for review and I won't do anything until I hear from them. In any case, other recent major changes in my life circumstances make it unlikely that I'll have the time or money to own an aircraft again. And that's okay. We all gotta do what we gotta do.
Wisconsin?
Good point... but the title "All-Michigan Leg of a Three-Part Wisconsin Road Trip" seemed a bit clunky.
This is not the end of my RV-8 videos; I still have many backlogs that I'll be sharing from time to time. This is merely the last one I will create.
Your build was inspirational. Looking forward to what you do next!
What an adventure you had, and I was honoured to have been a small part of it!
You and Dave were an important part of it. I have the 3-part Final Falsi-Fighter Flights video series created and I'll be posting them in December.
If it wasn't for useless projects I would have to take my model airplanes out in the back yard and run around making airplane noises. Then the neighbors would be calling the guys in white coats to come and take me away.
I agree. Puttering preserves sanity.
Very good video. You built it! You owned the skies in it! Your video editing is excellent. You da man. You achieved a big thing in life.
What is the approximate value of that 25 year old set?
Over the years I'd invested about $7000 in drums, cymbals, hardware and cases. But Pearl Export Select drums aren't that valuable on the used market so I got much less than that when I sold them. If I had parted out the kit I could have gotten more, but I didn't want the hassle of that.
Thanks for the update (I love your videos). We will all have to say goodbye to our projects/ birds someday ... I hope to do so as gracefully as you have when that time comes. Good luck as you transition to this new phase in your life.
Congratulations on the completion of a fantastic adventure. Many of us watching you over the years still hope to accomplish what you have now completed. Please take comfort in that success, and know we hope to see you in the air again soon.
When you need a ride give us a call or shout out and we will get you up in the air. While not RV speeds we can provide a low and slow good time for you. Sorry we never got the air to air shots. Blue Swayed Shoes just got back in the air after the upgrade.
Just sent you a message on Facebook. Not if, but when, right? Let's make that happen!
Thank you so much for posting this. My heart goes out to you, it's been a ride just following along from a great distance. I'm glad you're maintaining a positive attitude tho!
Oh wow. Your videos are always uncomplicated but fascinating. It's been a lot of years since I spent time at OSH but I'm glad to see so many of the good things are still there. I am deeply saddened to hear today that you had to sell your beautiful ship. I was thrilled to watch your progress on your build log, and when you completed her. I'm glad she's going to a great home tho, and that you aren't done with aviation yet! I am amused that you got about the same model of cot I have!
Thank you for the compliments. I'm working on an announcement video that I should be able to post within the next few days. Still have lots of finished videos waiting to be published and that will continue. And I had to laugh about the cot. As you know, I threw out all my camping gear at the end of that trip... except for that cot and mattress!
Kinda sad. I remember selling my Ludwig Vistalites a few years ago and I teared up because I had them since 1975. That has to hurt. Good to see you still have a kit to play in the corner
My first real drum set was a 6 pc Slingerland Marine Pearl kit that I put together in the early '70s. I really wish I hadn't sold them.
did you ever recalibrate to something you liked? I am trying to calibrate my plane and the instructions are not exactly clear. I am close, but not sure if I should do all of teh calibrations with flaps or no flaps. Thanks.
I deployed the first notch of flaps below 90 knots when approaching to land, so my calibrations were based with the flaps halfway down, as indicated on the G3X display. After flying for a while I thought about recalibrating because in normal flying (not trying to calibrate) I realized that my indicators were coming later than I liked. Don't be afraid to do the calibrations several times until you are getting the indicators where and when you want them.
Cmon guys ... Get into a Vans 2 seat side by side model FIRST, and do a few laps....
Shawn was an experienced RV pilot who had gotten training with Bruce Bohannon in the RV-8 and had been checked out in the RV-3 prior to buying it. Although your advice is wise, it doesn't really apply to the scenario shown in the video. He didn't just hop in and go.
Nice Video Marty!
Sounds like it went to a good home. My kits have been in storage in the basement for years. Ive been thinking of getting them set back up. Need to...
I just noticed that manic clock pendulum!
Lol yeah I noticed that too
Those are such good looking planes. Lucky guy!
Enjoyed
I'm embarrassed to say I don't know this tune.... Beethoven ?
It's in the description above: Egmont Overture by Kevin MacLeod, from the RUclips Audio Library.
@@goatflieg It is Beethoven !! 😊...(not sure who Kevin McCloud is )
Ok; Kevin MacLeod is the performer.@@lrsissom
Was just on the island this weekend! Always a blast and an amazing opportunity to be able to fly to. Will I see you in Brighton soon?
Possibly... it's time for another visit.
Got to love when tower sends the piper to the parallel then puts them back because they know you're gonna be no factor departing northbound
Glad you’re getting to fly a lot
Keep flying, my friend. Glad you're back in the air.
My favorite of all.
How cool! Come pick me for a ride sometime.
"Promosm"
It's a thought... but nah. I'm a creator, not a farmer. ;)
Nice to see you back in the saddle again.
Nice trip Marty. I enjoyed flying with you.
I dropped by early in the week, but then got busy. Hope you had a great one!
Love the channel! Good vid as always
Well done!
Congrats on your OSH 23 trip and video summary! Your parking spot was prime real estate. It was great to share breakfast and conversation with you, thanks for your time. “Pyro” CM
Thanks for your kindness and hospitality. It was a great start to a great week!
OSH in 2:49! Nice music 😅
you had such a good parking spot there!
I really did! One of the highlights of the trip.
Great to see you back in the air! Glad the medical issues have been resolved.
Great that you attended this year.
